Hemp oil for dogs: What are the benefits?

With hemp and hemp products on the rise, many consumers are coming to understand its potential health benefits, going for this natural alternative rather than pharmaceuticals.

Many people assume that hemp seed oil and hemp oil are the same however there are more than a few differences and benefits derived.

Let’s start from the beginning.

There are two types of cannabis plants- one called hemp and one called marijuana. The two plants are from the same family and they share the same DNA however they are both different. (Just like dogs and wolves).

So what’s the difference between marijuana and hemp?

The most important difference is in the chemicals they contain, and their effect on the body as well as the legality.

Both hemp and marijuana contain the chemicals Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the psychoactive component that gives you the ‘high’ and CBD is the component that provides therapeutic effects.

Marijuana has a high dosage of THC meaning that it can get you high while hemp does contain small traces of it, it will not get you or your pet high no matter how much you consume. Therefore you will not have to worry about your pet breaking the law!

Now that you know what the difference is between hemp and marijuana let talk about the difference between hemp seed oil and hemp oil.

What is the difference between hemp seed oil and hemp oil?

While hemp seed oil is made by cold pressing the seeds from the hemp plant- it is rich in essential amino acids, like Omega-3 fatty acids, as well as vitamin E. Hemp seed does not contain any CBD and can be purchased at the grocery store as a health supplement. As it does not contain CBD there are no therapeutic effects of this supplement.

By contrast, Hemp Oil comes with a whole different set of health benefits. Hemp Oil is made from the flower of the hemp plant, rather than the seed. Hemp Oil contains a full spectrum of different cannabinoids, one of which is often CBD and has the therapeutic effects.
